My short list for Lift-Off Sessions 2026 Volume 3 – New Voices Shorts

It only took me 4 days to get through the 151 short films in the Lift-Off Sessions 2026 Volume 3 – New Voices Shorts category. A quick note, if you haven’t rented the films (only $12 for 150 films) none of the film links will work for you. Sadly “The 7 Dresses” wouldn’t load so I didn’t get to check that one out. “Adventures Of Belqis, The Sailor” – Not in my short list but if the animated title sequence was continued for the whole movie it might have been. Another film not in my short list is “And I Think Of You” – no idea what she is singing but sounds beautiful, if only they had english subtitles. It was disappointing again that despite being a UK based film festival accepting films without english subtitles does make it difficult to appreciate films that I might otherwise.

The list below is in the order they appear on Vimeo.

Voice Again” – I was so happy to find one I connected with in the first 20 films before having to click on the load more. We needs more films supporting men and encouraging healthy discussions about mental health.

Inner Life” – Bodily organs audibly talking from inside a human while they are alive, interesting concept.

After” – A film I can easily relate to, if you’ve seen my entry you’ll hopefully know why.

Bici, The Story Of a Bike” – A creative animation about the life of a bicycle. I’d like to see more from this film maker.

The Song of the Ancients” – This film gave me a good chuckle. I don’t know if that was the film makers intention but hopefully it was. The last public screening my film had the audience was laughing at the credits. That wasn’t my intention but that’s the joy of creating once shared it’s up the recipient how they react to your creation.

The Interview” – I was happy to discover I’m not the only Aussie entry 🙂

Temporia” – I like time travel movies but this one didn’t quite grab me enough. I can’t put my finger on what is missing for me but something is which is a pity. I liked it better than “Tick Tock” – another time travel film closer to the end of the list of entries.

The Cult” – I think this film was made for this years Tropfest. Do you know why I think this?

Oscar The Baby Who Rocked the Art World” – This is a great example of a storyteller using technology to help them tell a story on a budget. So many other films among the entries aren’t at this same level.

My Story” – Not “my” story but an important story, let’s save the children, and let them have childhoods.

Identity (Who Am I?)” – “My” story, so yes it’s in my short list, hopefully it’s one of the four you choose to vote for. I’m still receiving feedback from it after it’s recent public screening.

Hopefully that list of 11 films helps you find your favourite four if you don’t have the time to check out all the 151 films. One of the films is only 5 seconds, others longer than 30 mins, it takes some time to get through them all. Interestingly one film maker has 2 entries.

“Identity (Who Am I?)” has been officially selected in the New Voices category along with 150 other short films. If you are a mega film buff and want to check out all the 5 categories of the Filmmaker Sessions 2026 Volume 3 click here you’ll need to rent each category separately.
