What are you thankful for?

If you follow me on social media you would have recently seen some never published before behind the scenes photos from my photographic series Journeys II.

In case you’ve missed them here are a couple from Silence Broken.

Remembering all it took to bring this series from my vision to the finish product has had me feeling appreciative again for the assistance my model was in bringing this story to life.

In both Silence Broken and Childhood she braved the cold weather in summer clothing. Her dedication to helping me capture the emotion I was trying to convey cannot be adequately conveyed in a blog post. I visited so many cemeteries looking for a particular site and I had just about given up when I finally found what I’d been looking for.

I spent weeks searching for the dress for Hollywood. Timing the shot was critical too as the lake fills up when it rains and I didn’t want to photoshop out the water. You can see from these shots some of the detail that went into setting the scene even though they weren’t as visible in the final shot.

In each shot I set about helping her feel the story as much as possible. In the original Journeys series the models face isn’t visible. This was a creative choice to enable you to insert yourself into the story. With Journeys II it was critical to show the emotion on her face and she didn’t let me down.

Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for a couple more behind the scenes looks into the making of Finding Hope and Together.
